2008 Brady Academic All-Stars

The Class of 2008 Academic All-Stars and Excellence Awards recipients were honored this past April. The events included a reception, program and award-presentation ceremony.

Alexander Hamilton High School

Katherine Curiel
Katherine Curiel has a perfect 4.0 grade point average and ranks first in her graduating class. She is a member of the National Honor Society and has earned Renaissance Gold Membership and the Exemplary Student Award for her academic accomplishments. She is a member of DECA and the Student Life Organization. Katherine held the office of treasurer in Letter Winners and played the 2007 lead role while in the Drama Club. She participated in her community through the YMCA International Committee, University of Wisconsin-Madison College Access Program and Milwaukee Youth Promoting Animal Welfare. In sports, Katherine is a member of the varsity soccer and varsity cross-country teams. She received the Scholar-Athlete Award for her academic standing and athletic achievements. Katherine is interested in a career in business. She is the daughter of Anabel Gonzalez of Milwaukee, Wis.

John Kalogriopoulos
John Kalogriopoulos has a cumulative grade point average of 3.96 on a 4.0 scale and ranks third in his graduating class. He is a member of the National Honor Society and he achieved the Rochester Humanities Award, Who's Who American High School Students, Student Achiever Awards, National Merit Scholar, Honor Roll and was named a delegate to the Badger Boys State. John is the Senior Board treasurer, Investment Club treasurer, member of Letter Winners Club, Renaissance, Student Life and he is the president of his Church Youth Group. John’s parents are Elena and Tony Kalogriopoulos of Milwaukee, Wis.


Arrowhead High School

Eric Herbert
Eric Herbert has a perfect 4.0 grade point average and ranks first in his graduating class. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society and a National Merit Scholarship semi-finalist. Eric is a four-time achiever in Who’s Who in America, Student Achiever Award winner and a four-time High Honor Roll student. He volunteers through the National Honor Society and his church. Eric has been involved in Relay for Life, MS Walk and Special Olympics. In sports, he was on the 2006 State Runner Up and the 2007 State Champions football team and he was the 2007 team captain. He competes in track and in wrestling. He is the wrestling team captain and he placed team and individual state. He plans to attend Notre Dame and he is interested in the field of engineering. Eric is the son of Denise and Gary Herbert of Sussex, Wis.

Lauren Jansen
Lauren Jansen has a perfect 4.0 grade point average and ranks first in her graduating class. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society. Lauren participated in her community’s senior citizen bingo and in a Hurricane Katrina Relief mission trip. She was a basketball and soccer camp coach referee and group leader at Elmbrook Church camp. In sports, Lauren competed and lettered in varsity cross-country, varsity baseball and varsity soccer. In soccer, she is team captain and earned the Team Player Award, the Hustle Award and Honorable Mention All-Conference. She plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her career interest is chemical or biomedical engineering. Her parents are Kim Owens and Scott Jansen of Hartland, Wis.


Bay View High School

Colin Alexander Jr.
Colin Alexander Jr. has a cumulative grade point average of 3.1 on a 4.0 scale and ranks in the top ten percent of his graduating class. He is a member of the National Honor Society. Colin is in the Law specialty program and ROTC and he was involved in the prom committee and Senior Class commission. He has received recognition through the honor roll, Renaissance Program, Paw Print Award and Sponsor a Scholar. Colin volunteers in the YMCA programs, Special Olympics and as a camp counselor. In sports, he was captain of the Conference Champs varsity football team. He was captain of the varsity wrestling team and competed in varsity track. Colin plans to attend the University of Miami-Coral Gables. He is interested in a career as a sports agent. He is the son of Wanda and Colin Alexander of Milwaukee, Wis.

Shelley Payne
Shelley Payne has a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and ranks in the top five percent of her graduating class. Shelley achieved Honor Roll and ROTC platoon commander, NJROTC outstanding cadet and she is the recipient of the Women’s Scholar Athletics of Wisconsin Award. She is involved in the Renaissance Program, Law specialty and Math/Science specialty programs, and with Boy and Girl Scouts of America programs. In sports, she is the captain of the 2006 Conference Champs baseball team. She competed on the volleyball team and as wrestling manager. She plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She is interested in serving in the Navy and becoming a lawyer. Shelley is the daughter of Lori and Kevin Payne of Milwaukee, Wis.


Bradley Trade & Technical High School

Jeffrey Lemmer
Jeffrey Lemmer has a perfect 4.0 grade point average and ranks first in his graduating class. He participated in student government and JROTC. Jeffrey is involved in his community as a wrestling coach through the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee-Davis Branch, one of the largest Boys and Girls Clubs in the United States. In sports, Jeffrey ranked All State Honorable Mention as quarterback in his senior year. He competed on the football and wrestling teams for four years and in track for two years. Jeffrey is interested in a career in business. His parents are Anne Welter and Don Lemmer of Milwaukee, Wis.

Amanda Saycocie
Amanda Saycocie has a cumulative grade point average of 3.87 on a 4.0 scale and ranks in the top five percent of her graduating class. She is a member of the National Honor Society, senior council and student government. Amanda worked as a volunteer at the Shrine Circus and Bradley Trade & Technical High School’s open house and parent-teacher conference. In sports, she played soccer for four years and volleyball for three years. She is interested in a career in business. Amanda is the daughter of Monekeo Saycocie of Milwaukee, Wis.


Brookfield Academy

Patrick Malloy
Patrick Malloy has a cumulative grade point average of 95.7 on a 100.0 scale. He is a two-time scholarship recipient, three-time recipient of the Scholar Athlete Award. He achieved the Academic Merit Award and Academic Honor Roll. Patrick participated in his community as a volunteer for a church festival, school open house, Wauwatosa 4th of July parade and Milwaukee Art Museum’s Día de los Muertos celebration. In sports, Patrick was team captain of varsity cross-country and ranked three-time All-Conference. He competed in varsity basketball and he was a member of the State Qualifying Team in varsity track and field. He is interested in studying business. He is the son of Amy and Daniel Malloy of Wauwatosa, Wis.

Lauren Smyczek
Lauren Smyczek has a cumulative grade point average of 97.9 on a 100.0 scale. She is the recipient of the Yale Book Award, Frederick Douglas and Susan B. Anthony Award for Humanities and Brookfield Academy French Subject Award. She is a National Merit Finalist and she took 1st place in the Alliance Francaise de Milwaukee Essay Contest. Lauren is a member of the French Club and Leaders of Tomorrow and she is a mentor/tutor and tennis teacher for the Summit Educational Organization. Lauren performed the principal role in the all-school musical and upper-school play. In sports, she received the MIP award in varsity fencing. In varsity tennis Lauren was MVP and she placed third in state her senior year. Lauren is interested in a career in the healthcare profession. Lauren is the daughter of Janet and Philip Smyczek of Hales Corners, Wis.


Brookfield Central High School

Michael Bogard
Michael Bogard has a cumulative grade point average of 4.15 on a 4.0 scale and ranks in the top one percent of his graduating class. He is on the board of the National Honor Society and president of the Recycling Club. Michael participated in the Key Club, Junior Achievement Business Challenge, the Freshman Mentor program and Wisconsin Leader of Tomorrow. He volunteers through the Salvation Army, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, Lakeland Officials Association, Special Olympics and Survive Alive House programs. In sports, he is a Wendy’s H.S. Heisman nominee and state finalist. He was varsity football team captain and ranked 1st Team All-Conference kicker, 2nd Team All-Conference quarterback and CNI kicker of the year. Michael plans to attend Grinnell College. He is interested in a career in economics and business. His parent’s are Gina and Bill Bogard of Brookfield, Wis.

Mallory Meiklejohn
Mallory Meiklejohn has a cumulative grade point average of 4.1 on a 4.0 scale and ranks in the top one percent of her graduating class. She is a member of the National Honor Society and three-time recipient of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Student Achiever Award. Mallory participates in her Class Council, Key Club, student council, Wisconsin Leader of Tomorrow and Freshman Mentor program. She is active in her church youth board and youth group. In sports, she competed in varsity tennis on the 2007 Wisconsin State Runner Up team and she was captain of the varsity soccer team. Mallory plans to attend either the University of Wisconsin-Madison or the University of Minnesota-Twin Citites. She is interested in architecture, engineering and biological science. Mallory is the daughter of Barbara and Peter Meiklejohn of Brookfield, Wis.


Brookfield East High School

Shannon Gregg
Shannon Gregg has a cumulative grade point average of 4.13 on a 4.0 scale and ranks in the top five percent of her graduating class. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the recipient of the Student Achievement Award, Academic Excellence Award and the Scholar Athlete Award. Shannon served as a counselor at Camp Timber-Lee, teaches Sunday School at Elmbrook Church and traveled on a mission trip to Kenya. In sports, Shannon was team captain of the cross-country and track teams. Her cross-country team placed 1st Team All-Conference and Team Conference Champs. She is participating in a mentorship program at the Froedert Sports Medicine Clinic. She plans to attend Marquette or the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her career interest is in physical therapy. Shannon’s parents are Kim and Gary Gregg of Brookfield, Wis.

Trevor Thorp
Trevor Thorp has a cumulative grade point average of 4.05 on a 4.0 scale and ranks in the top ten percent of his graduating class. He was nominated to the Leadership Camp in Washington D.C. and he is a member of the Spanish National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta, a Mathematics Honors Society. Trevor was a volunteer at the Wisconsin Humane Society. In sports, he competed in varsity tennis, as a weightlifter and with the 2007 Conference Champs track & field team. In dodgeball, Trevor won the 12th grade tournament. He plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His career interest is in pharmaceutical science. Trevor is the son of Kathy and Jim Thorp of Brookfield, Wis. Wisconsin.

Brown Deer High School

David Schimenz
David Schimenz has a cumulative grade point average of 4.26 on a 4.33 scale and ranks 5th in his graduating class. He is a member of the National Honor Society and he has been involved in the band and jazz band for the past four years. David has participated in the Brown Deer High School Scholarship Drive and the Brown Deer Bowl-A-Thon. In sports, David was named to the baseball coaches All-Academic Team. During his four years of baseball he made captain and 2nd Team All-Conference. In track & field he was a sectional qualifier. He also competed in football, swimming, soccer and wrestling. David earned varsity letters in all sports. He plans to attend the University of Wisconsin LaCrosse. He is interested in the field of physical therapy. David is the son of Ellen and Matthew Schimenz of Brown Deer, Wis.

Kristy Webster
Kristy Webster has a cumulative grade point average of 4.30 on a 4.33 scale and ranks 3rd in her graduating class. She is a member of the National Honor Society, DECA and the Student Activities Council. Kristy has been a band and jazz band member for the past four years. In sports, she earned her varsity letters and competed in soccer and swimming. She plans to attend SMU. Her career interest is in business and marketing. Kristy’s parents are Suzanne and Thomas Webster of Brown Deer, Wis.


Calvary Baptist School

Sarah Casper
Sarah Casper has a cumulative grade point average of 3.59 on a 4.0 scale and ranks first in her graduating class. She is a member of the American Christian Honor Society. Sarah participates in the school service club as club secretary, the drama club's annual musical, as a choir member and as a choir section leader. She has served as a class officer from her freshman through senior years, participated as a teacher’s aid in summer vacation Bible School and volunteers at the Washington County Humane Society. In sports, she competed on the volleyball team and as a member of the bowling club. Sarah plans to attend the Trinity International University in Illinois. She is interested in the field of chemistry. Sarah is the daughter of Christine and Timothy Casper of Sussex, Wis.


Catholic Memorial High School

Matthew Mohorek
Matthew Mohorek has a cumulative grade point average of 4.56 on a 4.0 scale and ranks third in his graduating class. He is a member of the National Honor Society and the recipient of the Student Achiever Award, the International Baccalaureate Diploma and High Honor Roll. Matthew has participated in Math League, Service Club, Pro Life Club, Liturgy Team and as a peer mentor. He volunteered for Interfaith Care Giving Network, the high school auction and open house. He co-chaired the ping-pong tournament and is captain of the Science Bowl. In sports, Matthew competed in varsity volleyball and was part of the Regional Champ, Sectional Champ and State Runner-up team. He was volleyball Classic Eight Conference Champion, 2nd Team All-Conference and MIP. He also competed in basketball. He plans to attend Marquette University and he is interested in the field of biological sciences. Matthew is the son of Kathleen and Ronald Mohorek of Waukesha, Wis.

Cassandra North
Cassandra North has a cumulative grade point average of 4.41 on a 4.0 scale and ranks in the top five percent of her graduating class. She is a member of the Science Bowl and the Math League. Cassandra has volunteered through her church, the New Berlins Junior Women’s Club. She coached at volleyball camp and she tutors at Saratoga and Blair grade schools. In sports, Cassandra competed in varsity volleyball, varsity basketball and varsity softball taking many First-Team and Honorable Mention All-Conference awards. Cassandra is a member of the Southwest Volleyball Club. She plans to attend Marquette University or Purdue. She is interested in a career in biomedical engineering. Cassandra is the daughter of Lynn and Randall North of New Berlin, Wis.


Cedarburg High School

Elizabeth Pike
Elizabeth Pike has a cumulative grade point average of 4.13 on a 4.0 scale and ranks in the top five percent of her graduating class. She is secretary of the National Honor Society and has achieved High Honor Roll, Academic Medal, Academic Letter, Student Athlete Award and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Student Achiever Award. She was elected Class president freshman through senior years. She is a member of the French Club, Teens Teaching Tolerance, student advisor and she was elected to represent her school at the Wisconsin Leadership Seminar. In sports, Elizabeth lettered in soccer, she was MVP and team captain in basketball and team captain in JV swim. She competed in tennis, cross country and Intramural basketball. Elizabeth will represent the fourth generation of her family to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is interested in a career in psychology education. Elizabeth is the daughter of Kay and John Pike of Cedarburg, Wis.

Jeremy Ward
Jeremy Ward has a cumulative grade point average 4.08 on a 4.0 scale and ranks in the top ten percent of his graduating class. He is a member of the National Honor Society, a recipient of the Academic Excellence Award and High Honor Roll. He is a member of the marching band and pep band. He participated in mission trips to West-Virginia and Minnesota, community service programs and in the Boy Scouts of America he earned an Eagle Scout award. Jeremy attended the National Youth Leadership Forum on Defense, Intelligence and Diplomacy in Washington D.C. in 2007. In sports, he received a varsity letter in cross-country and he competes in track and field. Jeremy plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is interested in a government career in international affairs and relations. Jeremy is the son of Sally Ward of Cedarburg, Wis.


Cudahy High School

Timothy Kim
Timothy Kim has a cumulative grade point average of 3.88 on a 4.0 scale and ranks fifth in his graduating class. He is a member of the National Honor Society and the Tri-M Honor Society. Timothy is the American Mathematics Competition school winner, Math Team gold medallist, AP Scholar with distinction, Korean Association of Milwaukee scholarship recipient, Questbridge finalist and Wisconsin School Music Association gold medalist (piano, concert violin). He has taken 17 UWM credits and is takingeight more this semester. He is a member of the jazz, pep, concert and marching bands and the orchestra. In sports Timothy competed in JV track, varsity soccer, intramural basketball and UW-Milwaukee intramural soccer. His career interest is in pre med / missionary. Timothy is the son of Hyoung Mi and Sung Keun Kim of Cudahy, Wis.

Caley Milton
Caley Milton has a cumulative grade point average of 3.92 on a 4.0 scale and ranks third in her graduating class. She is a member of the National Honor Society, student council, and All Kids Achieving Leadership. She is the recipient of the Academic Athlete Award and Renaissance Award. She was involved in the prom court committee and home coming committee. Caley participated as a teacher’s aide, assistant youth swim coach, swim camp counselor, Parish altar server and a Respite Day volunteer. In sports, she is captain of the varsity soccer and varsity swim teams. She plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her career interest is in pharmacy and sports medicine. Caley is the daughter of Mary and Lawrence Milton of Cudahy, Wis.


Custer High School

Ekalah Findley
Ekalah Findley has a cumulative grade point average of 2.778 on a 4.0 scale and ranks in the top ten percent of her graduating class. She is a Brewer High Achiever and a member of the student council. Ekalah is involved in community service in her neighborhood. In sports, she is the captain of the varsity basketball team. She plays varsity softball and tennis. She plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Her career interest is as an athletic trainer. Ekalah is the daughter of Tyna and Eric Findley of Milwaukee, Wis.

Michael Harper
Michael Harper has a cumulative grade point average of 3.065 on a 4.0 scale and ranks fourth in his graduating class. He is a recipient of the Brewers High Achiever Award. He participated in the Marquette University Upward Bound Program and interned at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Michael competed in varsity basketball and varsity tennis. He is interested in a career as a crime scene investigator. Michael is the son of Michelle Ray of Milwaukee, Wis.


Divine Savior Holy Angels High School

Erin Brehm
Erin Brehm has a cumulative grade point average of 3.96 on a 4.0 scale and ranks second in her graduating class. She is a member of the National Honor society and a recipient of the Junior Student of the Year Award. Erin participates in the Liturgy Prep Club, Spanish Club, Year Book Club and as a Student Liturgy coordinator. She volunteers in the Saratoga After-School Program and as a Parish Youth Council leader. She is involved in Irish dance as a teacher, Mid-America Champion, National Qualifier and All-Ireland Championships Qualifier. In sports, Erin was on the varsity field hockey team and she was the 2007 captain of the varsity track and field team. She plans to attend Marquette University. Her career interest is in physical therapy. Erin is the daughter of Michele and Mark Brehm of Waukesha, Wis.

Lauren M. Kumbier
Lauren M. Kumbier has a cumulative grade point average of 3.94 on a 4.0 scale and ranks fourth her in her graduating class. Lauren is a four-year member of the National Honor Society. She has achieved National Biology Test top score, Knights of Columbus Math 1st place in district and the Scholar Athlete Award. She is a member of the PMC Club, Athletic Leaders of Today Club, Spanish Club, theatre production crew and sound coordinator. She is a Eucharistic Minister. In sports, Lauren participated in the Select Club College Softball Summer Travel Team and was National Exposure Tournament MVP. She is captain of the varsity softball team and was First Team All-Conference, First Team All-District and Honorable Mention All-State. Lauren plans to attend either the University of Wisconsin-Madison or Duke University. She is interested if the field of biomedical engineering and genetics. Lauren is the daughter of Linda and John Kumbier of Germantown, Wis.


Dominican High School

Juan Lozano
Juan Lozano has a perfect 4.00 grade point average and ranks first in his graduating class. He is one of two class valedictorians, a member of the National Honor Society, the math team and M.S.O.E. science team. In sports, Juan plays varsity tennis, basketball, cross-country and he is captain of the football team. He is an Eagle Scout, treasurer of the Investment Club, editor of the school newspaper and editor of the school’s Literary Magazine. Juan was a participant in the Ethical leadership seminar. His career interest is in aerospace or computer engineering. Juan is the son of Cindy and Juan Lozano of Menomonee Falls, Wis.

Alice Wycklendt
Alice Wycklendt has a perfect 4.00 grade point average and ranks first in her graduating class. She is one of two class valedictorians, a member of the National Honor Society, the liturgy committee, investment club, science team and she is active in campus ministry. Alice was a participant in the inner city garden project, ethical leadership seminar, civil rights seminar and black history program. In sports, she is varsity volleyball team captain, varsity basketball team captain and varsity soccer team captain. Alice is also a foster sister. Her career interest is in finance. Alice is the daughter of Claire and Karl Wycklendt of Milwaukee, Wis.


Eisenhower High School

Tristan Tobin
Tristan Tobin has a cumulative grade point average of 4.0 on a 5.0 scale and ranks in the top ten percent of his graduating class. He is a member of the National Honor Society. Tristan is the recipient of the Student Achievers Award, Math Team Conference runner-up, State Qualifier for Academic Decathlon and a six-time Gold Card recipient. He performs as a volunteer for teachers, youth football coach, youth basketball camp advisor and he has earned a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. In team sports, he was varsity football starter and team captain his senior year. In varsity basketball he was captain his senior year. He is interested in a career in biomedical engineering. Tristan is the son of Lori and Mike Tobin of New Berlin, Wis.

Megan Yanny
Megan Yanny has a cumulative grade point average of 4.18 on a 4.0 scale and ranks in the top five percent of her graduating class. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the recipient of the Gold Card, Academic Letter, Student Achiever Award and she is on the High Honor Roll. Meagan plays in the marching and pep bands. She tutors through the National Honor Society volunteers at the Humane Society and participates in the DUO program. In sports, she competed on the varsity volleyball team and on the 2007 2nd Team All-Conference varsity softball team. Meagan plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is interested in biology and the medical field. Megan is the daughter of Victoria and Kevin Yanny of New Berlin, Wis.


Franklin High School

Sarah Czaplewski
Sarah Czaplewski has a cumulative grade point average of 3.99 on a 4.0 scale and ranks second in her graduating class. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the Athletics and Activities Council. Sarah is a four-year recipient of the Scholar Athlete Award. She participates in the Tutor Mentor Program and as a scorekeeper for youth basketball. She volunteered at the Franklin Public Library, Polish Community Center, her parish and did yard work for the elderly. In sports, she is a four-year letter winner and 2007-2008 varsity soccer captain. Sarah plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is interested in a career in bio-medical engineering. Sarah is the daughter of Diane and Jeffrey Czaplewski of Franklin, Wis.

David Ozburn
David Ozburn has a cumulative grade point average of 3.94 on a 4.0 scale and ranks seventh in his graduating class. David is the recipient of the Brewers Student Achiever Award and he was chosen as Student of the Month in Math and Science in the 2007-2008 school year. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Students Against Destructive Decisions, FIRST Robotics Club and the Boy Scouts of America. In sports, he competed on the 2007 All-North Division varsity football team, track and field and soccer teams. David plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is interested in the field of chemical engineering. David is the son of Mary and John Ozburn of Franklin, Wis.


Germantown High School

Gregory Cox
Gregory Cox has a cumulative grade point average of 3.85 on a 4.0 scale and ranks in the top ten percent of his graduating class. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, student council and he was runner up in his class for the boys Scholar Athlete. Gregory has participated as a youth counselor, a server for an inner city soup kitchen, a Salvation Army bell ringer, a tennis instructor, middle school basketball scorekeeper and as a painter for his school. In sports, Gregory played 14 years club soccer, 4 years as a starting goalie at the varsity level receiving honorable mention All Conference. He competes in basketball and in varsity tennis. In tennis, he participated in state advancing the furthest in Germantown High School’s history of boy’s tennis. Gregory enjoys painting and has offered his work for sale and donations to auctions and raffles. He plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is interested in a medical career. Gregory is the son of Connie and William Cox of Germantown, Wis.

Melissa LaJeunesse
Melissa LaJeunesse has a cumulative grade point average of 3.98 on a 4.0 scale and ranks seventh in her graduating class. She is a member of the National Honor Society and vice president of the Spanish Honor Society. Melissa is chairperson of the Earth-Week committee. She is involved in the Global Slavery Initiative, the schools beautification group and she is a Spanish tutor. Melissa participates in Relay for Life, the St. Boniface mission group, Germantown recreation Department, Cup of Controversy, Emerging Women’s Salon and Youth Futures. In sports, Melissa competed in varsity tennis and varsity track. She has held a part-time job throughout high school. One of her goals is to study abroad, possibly Spain. She plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is interested in a career in biology and pathology. Melissa’s parents are Celeste and Rick LaJeunesse of Germantown, Wis.


Grafton High School

Samantha Grady
Samantha Grady has a cumulative grade point average of 3.94 on a 4.0 scale and ranks seventh in her graduating class. She is a member of the National Honor Society, student council, forensics, Amnesty International and Varsity Math Hawks. Samantha has volunteered as chair and donor in a blood drive and as chairperson for the Volunteer Center of Ozaukee County’s toiletry drive. She participates in concert choir, vocal jazz, women’s madrigal and she has been involved in jazz and ballet dance for many years. In sports, she competed on the girl’s tennis team. Eric J. Campbell
Eric J. Campbell has a cumulative grade point average of 4.05 on a 5.0 scale and ranks seventh in his graduating class. He is a member of the National Honor society, an AP Scholar, and a Woodland Conference Scholar Athlete. Eric volunteered as a coach for the Greenfield youth basketball camp, Susan J. Komen walk and the athletic booster club. In music, Eric was involved in the district and state solo and ensemble festivals and in the Greenfield High School wind ensemble performance at the Greenfield Education Foundation dinner. Daniel Lynch
Daniel Lynch has a 3.91 grade point average on a 4.0 scale and he ranks in the top 10 percent of his graduating class. He has received first honors each semester and is on the honor roll. Daniel is a member of the MUHS Math Club, Science Club and Latin Club. His is a student co-writer of the school’s annual student-written theatrical production Senior Follies, is a MUHS retreat participant and a freshman advisor. Bethany participates in Musical Costume crew, yearbook, symphonic band, pep band, clarinet choir and woodwind ensemble. She is president of the American Legion Auxiliary Junior Post #20 where she coordinated the Poppy Program. Lamel participates in the Global youth Leadership program and student council at his school. In sports, he competed in football and track and field. Lamel has competed at the varsity level in track since his freshman year. Last year, he was ranked No. 1 in the state in long jump, he holds his school’s long jump record and he is 5th all-time for the long jump in Wisconsin. Sarah volunteers with Youth Group and American Field Service. In sports she has competed in volleyball, cross country and basketball. She plans to attend Calvin College after graduation. Mark Van Weelden
Mark Van Weelden has a perfect 4.0 grade point average and is ranked first in his class. He is a member of the National Honor Society and takes advanced placement and honors courses. John Grosch

He has been involved in scouting for more than 10 years and he currently serves as scribe with his troop. Tyler Lorenz

Michael is the recipient of the Rensselaer Medal that is awarded to students who have distinguished themselves in mathematics and science. He has completed 150 hours of the C.A.S. Ashley is an active volunteer at St. Charles Youth and Family Services and La Causas. She tutors grade school students and serves as an assistant volleyball coach. Zachery Zirzow
Zachery Zirzow has a cumulative grade point average of 3.9 on a 4.0 scale and is ranked fifth in his graduating class. He is a member of the National Honor Society and Future Business Leaders of America, and has participated in Badger Boys State. In sports, Zachery participates in track and cross-country. He is the son of Dennis and Deanne Zirzow of St. Francis, and plans to attend the Milwaukee School of Engineering in the fall.

Matthew Bergstad
Matthew Bergstad has a cumulative grade point average of 3.8 on a 4.0 scale and is ranked third in his graduating class. Matthew is president of the senior class and a member of the National Honor Society. He has performed more than 250 service hours for projects in 2007-2008. Matthew has played soccer and football for his school, and was twice voted most valuable player in basketball. He is the son of Martha McCurry of Cedar Rapids, IA.

Christopher Cromwell
Christopher Cromwell has a cumulative grade point average of 3.7 on a 4.0 scale and is ranked sixth in his graduating class. He holds honors in geometry as best in class for 2007 and volunteers fund raising for his school. In sports, Christopher has played basketball and football at his school. Thomas Gates
Thomas Gates has a cumulative grade point average of 4.4 on a 4.0 scale and is ranked second in his graduating class. He is a member of the National Honor Society, has received the Bausch and Lomb Science Award, and achieved Silver Maxima Cum Laude on the National Latin Exam. Thomas volunteers as a peer tutor and a school ambassador, and is a member of the band, pep band and theatre group at his school. He is also a member of the Boy Scouts of America and is an altar server at this parish. Thomas is co-captain of the cross-country team at his school, and plans to study engineering and science in college. He is the son of Brian and JoAnn Gates of Milwaukee.

Renee Reszel
Renee Reszel has a cumulative grade point average of 4.4 on a 4.0 scale and is ranked sixth in her graduating class. She is a member of the National Honor Society and served as class president and student council co-president at her school. She has participated in Badger Girls State and as a mock political convention delegate. At school, she is a member of the math team and the key club and has participated in the school musical, the craft fair and the school auction. She also volunteers at her parish as a mass server and a Bible school assistant. In sports, she is captain of the cross-country and basketball teams and has played soccer. In 2008 she received the Women’s Sports Advocates of Wisconsin Award. She is the daughter of David and Beverly Reszel of South Milwaukee, and plans to attend the University of Wisconsin in Madison in the fall.


Shorewood High School

Laura Durgerian
Laura Durgerian has a cumulative grade point average of 4.1 on a 4.0 scale, is ranked third in her graduating class, and has received the Williams Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement. In sports, Laura is the co-founder of the Adventure Education Club and captain of the soccer team. She founded her own business, “Wilderness Canoe Outfitter” and has organized canoe adventures for women. This summer she will canoe in the artic wilderness. Laura is also a musician, playing the cello in the school orchestra and serving as section leader of the choir council. She is the daughter of Alan Schwabacher and Sally Durgerian of Shorewood.

Eric Maus

He has participated in Badger Boys State and is involved in the Science Olympiad, DECA, Graphics Club and Students Against Destructive Decisions. In sports, he was named most valuable player of his school’s varsity tennis team. Eric volunteers at the Washington County Humane Society and is a volunteer math tutor. He is the son of Raymond and Lynne Maus of Slinger, and plans to attend the University of Wisconsin in Madison in the fall.

Lacey Weninger
Lacey Weninger has a cumulative grade point average of 3.8 on a 4.0 scale. She is the editor of the school yearbook and a member of the Spanish Club, the Spanish National Honor Society, the symphonic, marching and pep bands, the Volunteer Corp, Peers for Peers, the Relay-for-Life team, the track team and the cross-country team. Lacey also volunteers at nursing homes, feeding the homeless and as a teacher’s aide. The daughter of Paul Weninger and Denise Borchardt of Slinger, she plans to study secondary education at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Geisha Melendez
Geisha Melendez has a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. She has received the DECA Medal for marketing and will attend the DECA State competition. In sports she has played softball at her school and is captain of the volleyball team. She is a member of the yearbook staff, the business academy banquet committee and the UMOS Christmas committee. Geisha is the daughter of Moises Melendez and Raquel Roman of Milwaukee and plans to attend Mount Mary College in the fall.


South Milwaukee High School

Emma Fischer
Emma Fischer has a cumulative grade point average of 3.9 on a 4.0 scale, is a member of the National Honor Society, and is the Student Senate President at her school. She holds the title of 2008 South Milwaukee Junior Miss. Emma is also a member of the senior choir, the student fiscal board, and the rocket activity advisory board at her school. In the community, she volunteers with the Trinity Lutheran Youth Group and is the coordinator of the Join Hands Day Project for Thrivent Lutheran Social Services. In sports, she is on the tennis team and the pompon squad. The daughter of Doug and Margie Fischer of South Milwaukee, Emma plans to attend Valparaiso University in the fall.

Tyler Vivian
Tyler Vivian has a perfect cumulative grade point average of 4.0 on a 4.0 scale and is ranked first in his graduating class. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Senate Treasurer, DECA Vice-President, French Honor Society Vice President and a section leader in band. He has received the Honored Citizen Award from the City of South Milwaukee and has participated in Badger Boys State. He also volunteers at Divine Mercy Church. In sports he is captain of the varsity swim team and also a member of the varsity cross-country and track-and-field teams. The son of James and Sharon Vivian of South Milwaukee, Tyler plans to study business at Indiana University in the fall.


University Lake School

Daniel Clarke
Daniel Clarke has a cumulative grade point average of 3.9 on a 4.0 scale. At his school he has received the Headmaster Award, the Laker Award, the Laker Service Award and the Presidential Fitness Award. He has attended Badger Boys State and volunteers at the Gathering Soup Kitchen, the Milwaukee Rescue Mission Daycare, and Race for the Cure. At school he also served on the musical tech crew and founded the SCUBA club. In sports he is captain of the varsity soccer team and the inter-mural all-school sports team at this school and also plays tennis and ice hockey. He is the son of Bill and Marshall Clarke of Colgate.

Statira Simmons
Statira Simmons has a cumulative grade point average of 3.8 on a 4.0 scale. At her school she has received the Headmaster Award for Spanish, the Student Achiever Award, the Laker Award, the Laker Service Award and the Fine Arts Excellence Award. She is a member of the student government, the hand-bell choir, the chess club, the homecoming and prom committees and the drama club. Statria has participated in her school’s musical and the spring play, as well as the Wisconsin Leadership Seminar. She volunteers as a student ambassador and for SHARE. Sanjay Hariharan
Sanjay Hariharan has a cumulative grade point average of 4.0 on a 4.0 scale. He is a national Merit Commended Scholar and has received the Milwaukee Brewers Student Achievement Award for Academics. Sanjay is a senior member of the Student Council and a member of the French Honor Society. He also works on the school newspaper and volunteers for Challenge 20/20 Poverty Group and the Wisconsin South Asian Community Service organization. He is also a tutor for Westside Academy and Carmen High School of Science and Technology. She is a Presidential Scholar Nominee and has received the Bausch & Lomb Award in Science and the Milwaukee Brewers Student Achievement Award for Academics. She is a National Merit Scholarship Finalist and volunteers tutoring for Westside Academy. In sports, she was voted most valuable player on the varsity tennis team at her school. The daughter of Steven and Debra Koenig of River Hills, Lisa plans to attend Dartmouth College in the fall.

Kirk Cooper-Johnson
Kirk Cooper-Johnson has a cumulative grade point average of 4.2 on a 4.0 scale and is vice-president of his school’s chapter of the National Honor Society. Kirk is a member of the concert choir and chamber singers at his school. He has also appeared in the school musical and is the former co-chair of the student input committee. In sports, he participated in football, basketball, tennis and volleyball. The son of Riley Cooper and Karen Johnson of Waukesha, he plans to attend St. Olaf College in the fall.

She is a member of the National Honor Society, vice president of the Creative Writing Club, served on the Prom Committee and volunteers tutoring math and German. In sports she has participated in gymnastics, cross-country and track and field. Michael Montenero

Lindsey Becker
Lindsey Becker has a cumulative grade point average of 4.3 on a 4.0 scale and is ranked fourth in her graduating class. She is a member of the National Honor Society and has received the 2008 Academic Excellence Scholarship from the State of Wisconsin. Lindsey volunteers at Goodwill and as a Eucharistic Minister at her church. In sports, she is senior captain of both the volleyball and softball teams, and also plays basketball.
